Kathy Van Wyk

Kathy Van WykKathy Van Wyk began her collegiate career pitching for the women’s softball team at Texas Women’s University (TWU), and transferred to Cal State Fullerton in her senior year.

In a particularly stellar year, 1982, she compiled a 35-1 record and a 0.18 earned run average, still the eighth best in Division 1 history. Her 33-game winning streak that season remains a record for consecutive victories with four no-hitters, six one-hitters, back-to-back perfect games, 27 shutouts and 270 strikeouts.

After graduating from Fullerton in 1983, Van Wyk became assistant coach to the team that won the 1986 NCAA national title. She remained there for four years.

In 1989, Van Wyk moved to Azzano Decimo, Italy as head coach and pitcher for the local softball club, guiding a team that had recorded just one win the previous season to its first playoff berth. She was also pitching coach for the Dutch national team leading up to and during the 1998 World Championships in Japan.

Kathy is currently the Head Coach at San Diego State University.
